The Institution of Professional Engineers of Japan was established in 1951 for the purpose of promoting and enlightening the professional engineer system, as the only public interest incorporated association of professional engineers in Japan as specified by the Professional Engineers Law.

Purpose |
The Institution aims to maintain the dignity of professional engineers throughout Japan, to improve their qualifications, and to improve the progress of their work, by providing training for professional engineers and administrative work related to guidance and liaison with members throughout Japan, thereby contributing to the improvement of science and technology, the development of the national economy, and the promotion of international exchange, as well as contributing to society at large. Jun. 1951: The Institution of Professional Engineers, Japan established
Oct. 1951: Approval for establishment of the Institution of Professional Engineers, Japan (by the Minister of International Trade and Industry)
May. 1957: Professional Engineer Law (Law No.124) promulgated.
Jul. 1958: The 1st Professional Engineer Examination was held.
Mar. 1959: Approval for establishment of the Institution of Professional Engineers, Japan (under the jurisdiction of the Science and Technology Agency) based on the Professional Engineers Law.
Apr. 1983: The Professional Engineer Law was fully revised (Law No. 25).
Feb. 1984: Designated as an examination institute for Professional Engineers and a registration agency for Professional Engineers
Jan. 1985: The 1st Professional Engineer First Examination was held.
Apr. 2000: Professional Engineer Act revised.
Nov. 2000: Started accepting applications for APEC Engineers
Jun. 2004: Announced "Professional Engineer Vision 21
Jan. 2007: Announced "Professional Engineer Profession Declaration
Mar. 2008: Started to accept applications for EMF (now IPEA) International Engineer
Mar. 2011: Revised the Professional Engineer Code of Ethics and newly established the Professional Engineer Code of Ethics
Apr. 2011: Became a public interest incorporated association, the Institution of Professional Engineers, Japan.
