NAMASTE (Hello Everyone!)
I am Tapan Jaiswal, working in Japan as an electrical engineer for past two years. I am from Nepal - a small country from south Asia, which is full of natural beauty and social diversity, in spite of its small size. Though Nepal is still, a male dominated society, I am happy with the recent development in the field of women empowerment in my country.
Nepal is very similar to Japan, in regards to culture and social thinking. Especially, in the field of science and technology, the participation of women is much low, compared to men in both countries. But, in the recent past, many efforts have been made to improve the situation. In my office here in Japan, which is basically a construction consultant company, I have seen considerable increase in young women employees in past two years. They hold same position, authority and responsibilities as men and thrive to improve every day. They go for client meetings, field inspection and even enjoy after-work drinks as often as their male counterparts. This is just an instance of my company, but I really feel that Japan, as a whole, is progressing rapidly towards gender equality.
Speaking of my country, special reservation seats are provided for women in education and employment sector in order to motivate women to come forward and participate equally in social and economic development. Nepali women are also thriving to compete in international scenario, with many young women indulging in research work in America, Australia, Japan etc. I have many female friends, even here in Japan, who work in renowned companies as professional engineers in the field of architecture, civil, mechanical works and are thriving to become the best.
As a Chinese proverb goes “Women hold up half the sky”. So, it’s high time that governments and society realize the importance of equal participation of women for sustainable growth. Looking at the current trends, I am sure that in recent future, the participation of women in field of education, science and technology in both these countries is going to increase by greater folds.
